My grandfather worked there as a travelling feed and grain salesman. He continued to work there after the Coast Trading Company bought out Ceretana. He was there for 32 years. I used to ride along with him in the summers and can still smell that place. I would push hand trucks, it's what we called the dollies, to help load grain bags in the mornings before heading out. Those are some of my favorite memories
The Ceretana grain elevator, Located in Missoula, Montana. It was constructed in 1929 and was serviced by the Northern Pacific Railway and Burlington Northern Railway.
WeBrad Trenary lived a block west on Sherwood when I was in grade school. I remember the night my mom woke us up because it was on fire and we were told we had to leave the house. Huge cinders were floating down into the yard and street. I remember seeing the silhouette of a fireman on a roof spaying water from the fire hose. The next day, there was a huge mound of grain that had poured out into the street. We got very stern instructions to not play in it. (We did anyway with harsh consequences.) I also remember the pigeons got so fat they couldnt fly. I think it was about 1962-63... not sure what year
